Railroad Park

Birmingham, AL

Railroad Park is a 19-acre greenspace that opened in fall of 2010 along 1st Avenue South between 14th and 18th Streets in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. Vision Landscapes provided the landscaping for the project and now maintains the park, including its lake, biofiltration wetlands, ponds and streams. The park boasts over 600 trees and an array of annual, biennial and perennial flowers. Railroad Park has won numerous award including the Urban Land Institute’s 2012 Urban Open Space Award, an award given annually to “an outstanding example of a public destination that has enriched and revitalized its surrounding community.” The next step for the park is to become a part of the new Birmingham Rotary Trail, a project which will create a green space to allow walkers and cyclists to travel from Railroad Park to Sloss Furnaces with ease.
